Big和large的意思是一样的。不过，到底用哪个我们要看“大”在修饰什么名词，big和large这两个单词的不同是依上下文而定的。
最好查一下网上西方报纸的用法 – 看一下跟large出现得多还是跟big出现得多。
如有疑问或者觉得可以互用，倾向于large。大部分时间large相对恰当，large相对正式。
常可互换, 但是，有些比喻用法可以用big而不能用large。例如：
Big difference, big night, big success, big sale, big brother, big sister, big boss, big star, big celebrity, big effort, big project, big mistake, etc。
例句：With such a large amount of mistakes, your English is a big problem for Angry Editor! （有这么大数量的错误， 你的英文是Angry Editor的大问题）

@Fiona – 这个，首先要看是不是比喻用法。比喻的话，肯定是big. “Temporal”的话, i.e. You could stand on it, 虽然big和large都可以，我比较喜欢large.

这么说吧，Big表示一般的大。而Large表示巨大，那种有点吃惊惊讶的大。Large要比Big “大”

Methinks “large” tends to refer more to a physical size or some kind of a size, whereas “big” is more figurative?
